Lands and Resources

The driving vision behind the Lands and Resources department is to become self sustaining by exercising jurisdiciton over our traditional territory. We will achieve this through co-management, shared decision-making, and capacity development, while protecting our environment and respecting Secwepemc cuture and values.

Current Projects of lands and resources:

  • RTS referral tracking system
  • 3 band Territorial Framework
  • Mountain Pine Beetle Forest Fuel Management
  • Various Business/Government Partnerships
  • Encouraging agricultural and land development
  • Kela' Scen (Mount IDA Co-management project)
  • Supporting Chief and Council in their Aboriginal Title and Rights strategies
  • And managing various activities that fall under our purview.

Technology

Neskonlith Band is active in high tech projects to improve mapping, natural resource documentation, and communication. These projects include the innovative database driven Refferal Tracking System, and a 3 band website for sharing land information.

Kela'scen (Mount Ida Co-management Project)

Elders were raising concerns that cultural values were being disrespected on the mountain. The Band comanages with governemtn and industry to maintain acceptable harvesting practice.

Partnerships

The Neskonlith people assume the stewardship their traditional territories. By pursuing partnerships with government and business to ensure our territories are being respected. The intent is to integrate Secwepemc values into the decision-making process, so that the collective views values and traditional practices of the Neskonlith People are respected.
